"The Artisan Block" which is exactly how it can be translated, is in the heart of the city of Joensuu (exact address: Koskikatu 1). As its name suggests, Taitokortteli is a block indeed, consisting of 4 historical buildings united by the single goal: to support local arts and crafts. Taitokortteli offers a diverse range of services, including delightful boutiques, a cozy café, a couple of well-being services, and engaging handicraft courses at Taitokeskus, which is the central organization in the artisan block. Additionally, our tranquil, rentable cabinets and bigger premises (‘The Taito Gallery’), vintage-stylized, are perfect for meetings, parties, and other gatherings.

In our delightful café, you can enjoy a delicious assortment of sweet and savory treats, along with a daily soup served during lunch hours (Mon-Fri, 11 am to 2 pm). The café also offers fresh bread and beverages, ensuring no one do not leave here hungry. Throughout the year, Taitokortteli hosts captivating art exhibitions that celebrate the rich Finnish and Karelian culture, making it a cultural hub in the region. Our boutiques always offer a wide selection of unique handicrafts, clothing, jewelry, and home décor items. Here, you are sure to find special and high-quality gifts. And one thing that cannot be left out – our handicraft coaching and courses. They are highly popular and provide an opportunity to learn new skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. These courses range from traditional Finnish crafts to more modern creations.

Accessibility is a priority for us. The Mustonen’s house has got an entrance that can be reached through our inner courtyard via a ramp, suitable for walkers, baby carriages, and wheelchairs. The Taito Gallery is accessible via a staircase, equipped with a new generation chairlift. In other words, all our facilities are designed to be accessible and comfortable for all our visitors. Taitokortteli is also an active event venue, regularly hosting various workshops, markets, and cultural events. These events bring life to the city and provide an opportunity to meet local artisans and artists, further enriching the community experience.
